Sooner Late Model Series Recap – Crawford County Speedway, Van Buren, AR (April 12, 2025) The Sooner Late Model Series rolled into Crawford County Speedway on Saturday night, bringing another round of high-intensity racing to the Arkansas clay. A stout field of late models filled the pits, but the night took a tough turn early for one of Friday’s top performers. Dan Smith of Beloit, Kansas, was unable to capitalize on his momentum from Thunderbird Speedway. His night ended prematurely with a DNF after being collected in an unavoidable crash at the start of the feature, cutting short what had looked to be another promising run. On the flip side, his father Delbert Smith of Wichita, Kansas, delivered one of the most impressive drives of the night. Starting 11th on the grid, the veteran methodically worked his way through the field to finish 5th, not only gaining six spots but also laying down the fastest lap of the feature in the process. His performance turned heads and proved that the 92 car still has plenty of speed to contend. Despite Dan’s misfortune, the Smith family remained a strong presence in the Sooner Late Model Series, and Delbert’s charge through the field added another highlight to an already exciting weekend of racing.
