The Sooner Late Model Series rolled into Thunderbird Speedway on Friday night, delivering a thrilling evening of dirt track action on the historic half-mile oval. A strong field of regional late model talent battled it out under the lights, with fans treated to tight racing and high-speed drama.

Dan Smith of Beloit, Kansas, had a standout performance, charging through the field to claim a strong third-place finish, marking one of his best runs of the 2025 season so far. Smith showed speed all night, making bold moves on restarts and holding his own against some of the tour’s top competitors.

His father, Delbert Smith of Wichita, Kansas—a veteran of the sport—was right behind him in the final rundown. The elder Smith brought his iconic #92 machine home in an impressive fourth place, proving he’s still got plenty left in the tank. Together, the father-son duo turned heads and represented Kansas with pride in Oklahoma.

The Sooner Series continues to heat up as the season rolls on, and the Smiths look poised to be contenders throughout the year.
