Hailing from Wichita, Kansas, Delbert's passion for racing was ignited by his uncle, Arkie Findley, a respected racer in his own right, and his brother Lonnie. Inspired by their influence, Delbert began competing in the 1970s and quickly made a name for himself at tracks like 81 Speedway in Wichita and Fun Valley Speedway in Hutchinson.
